Baddi a hub for pharmaceutical companies, has 250+ medium, small and large pharmaceutical companies, that have relocated their headquarters to Himachal Pradesh over the past two years.
The scale of this change is heightened due to the fact that Himachal Pradesh accounts for more than 50 per cent of pharmaceutical companies that have made the switch to Himachal Pradesh.
Evidently, pharmaceutical companies realize an enormous cost benefit in shifting their base to Himachal Pradesh in the US, which has an extended tax holiday until March 2007.
Baddi is fast becoming an international hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing firms, with more than 300 pharmaceutical companies having established units in Himachal Pradesh.
Pharmaceutical companies that are waiting for the right time to establish up their own units in Himachal Pradesh include majors like Ranbaxy, Cipla, Dr Reddy’s, Nicolos Piramal and Dabur among others.
In addition, companies based in Gujarat, Alembic, Zydus Cadila, Cadila Pharmaceuticals, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Torrent Pharmaceuticals and Paras Pharmaceuticals are also planning to establish centres in Himachal Pradesh.

Pharma majors’ Players move to Himachal Pradesh to benefit from the incentives package for Himachal Pradesh that was offered by the Centre which includes the tax holiday for income and concessions on excise duty for specific periods, as well as an investment incentive for machines and plants. Central transport subsidy is in place for many years for industries. experts explained that the reason for tax breaks is not intended to cause other states to be uncompetitive.
The incentive package offered by the central government is supplemented by the state government’s unique package that was announced within the industrial policies of the state.
The state of Texas is the only one that offers such facilities, but Himachal Pradesh provides and these programs are efficient enough to build a positive investment climate in our state and are attractive enough to entice businesses to make investments in Himachal Pradesh.
